Program Details

Join us for this full day program exploring the advanced skill set necessary for clinicians to confidently recognize and treat anxiety and depression in women. An in depth review of serious psychiatric issues will cover the approach for diagnosis, DSM-V terminology, and comprehensive management. In addition, we will review the unique ethical and clinical challenges inherent in prescribing for pre conception, pregnant and breastfeeding women. 

About the Presenter

Adria Goodness CNM, PMHNP is a psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse-Midwife in Portland, Oregon. She completed her Master of Nursing (Midwifery) and her Post-Master certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing at Oregon Health and Science University. From 2003 to 2013, Adria worked as a CNM in the Portland area. In 2011, she opened a private psychiatric practice.  Adria now treats pre conception, pregnant, and postpartum women with emotional and psychiatric illness in her specialty focus of reproductive psychiatry. An estimated 300,000 women worldwide die every year during pregnancy, childbirth, or soon after, and nearly 3 million infants die in the first month of life. Prioritizing research into midwifery — particularly on family planning, preterm births, and high-quality care — can help address these unacceptably high rates of death for newborn children and women giving birth, according to a study led by Dr. Holly Powell Kennedy, PhD, CNM, FACNM, FAAN, executive dean of the Yale School of Nursing and a past president of ACNM, and published in The Lancet Global Health.

Purcell joins ACNM from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) where he most recently served as the Senior Director of Federal Government Affairs. He also worked 11 years on Capitol Hill in the offices of 3 members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
